Meet Joanne Ouellette

Welcome — I'm Joanne.

For over 25 years, caring for others has been my calling. As a Personal Support Worker in long-term care, retirement homes, and private homes — and as a Community Social Service Worker supporting families, children, and elders — I have had the privilege of looking after people at every stage of life.

My focus is simple: quality care, delivered with warmth. Everyone I care for is treated with dignity, patience, and genuine kindness — like family.

Whether you need a helping hand, a warm meal, or simply good company, I'm here to help make home the most comfortable place to be.

Care should feel different

Why I Started Pink Orchid

After more than 25 years working in health care — in long-term care homes, retirement residences, and private homes — I have seen what the system does well, and where it falls short. Too often, care feels like a business: rushed visits, unfamiliar faces, and people treated like tasks on a list.

I started Pink Orchid Home Support because I believe care should feel different. It should feel like warmth. Like someone who knows your name, your stories, and how you take your tea. Like family.

This is personal for me. Every person I care for gets my full attention, my patience, and my heart — because that is what I would want for my own family.

“Care should be slowed down and person-centered — never rushed.”

— Joanne

A life devoted to care

My Journey of Care

For more than 25 years, care has taken me into long-term care homes, retirement residences, private homes, community programs, and northern communities — always with the same purpose: to help people feel safe, heard, and treated with dignity.

Where hands-on care became my calling

My years as a Personal Support Worker were shaped in long-term care at Stoneridge Manor in Carleton Place, Granitridge Manor in Stittsville, and Fairview Manor in Almonte. I also brought that care into retirement homes, private homes, and psychiatric and mental health care settings. Along the way, I earned my Personal Support Worker diploma from Algonquin College in Ottawa in 2007.

The work was always deeply personal: helping with daily living and personal care, preparing meals with dietary needs in mind, following care plans, supporting safe lifts and transfers, charting changes in physical and emotional well-being, and protecting fragile skin. It also meant being a steady, familiar presence through palliative care, mental health challenges, and specialized dementia, Alzheimer’s, and Parkinson’s care.

Growing from personal care into community support

Wanting to support the whole person — and the families around them — led me back to Algonquin College, where I earned my Community Social Service Worker diploma in 2016. In Ottawa, I worked as a Child Care Worker and Instructor Therapist with Thinking in Pictures Educational Services, delivering ABA and IBI programming and life-skills support for children with developmental and behavioural challenges.

Listening, learning, and serving in Nunavut

My journey later took me to Nunavut. As a Social Service Worker and Outreach Worker with Child and Family Services, I provided community outreach, crisis intervention, and case planning and management for children, youth, adults, and elders. I helped connect families with mental health, addiction, housing, and income supports.

At Arnarjuak Junior High School, I also served as a Child and Youth Facilitator — counselling young people, offering one-to-one life-skills coaching, and supporting suicide prevention and intervention, education, and goal planning.

Every setting has taught me something different, but the heart of the work has never changed: meet people where they are, take the time to listen, and care for them as you would your own family.
